COMMANDER'S CORNER
Hello Comrades,
As 2025 comes in strong with some harsh weather, I truly hope everyone stayed warm and safe. First off, I would like to Welcome our newest Life Members Teddy Grace and Steve Michaels. With every addition to our ranks, we build a larger reach out to the Veterans in need and the local communities we thrive in daily. We are pushing a membership drive for the months of February thru April. If you are an annual member or know someone who may want to join the lifetime Membership Drive is up and running. Reach out to any member for more details or come by on our Tuesday night dinners at the Post and get some great food at a very reasonable price and sit with me to discuss membership. We are constantly seeking ways to help the community and our Veterans. I wanted to share with everyone that we are a Nonprofit Organization. We rely on fundraisers and the generous donations of our member and our local community. We are seeking support so we can maximize our outreach to those in need. I ask, please share what the VFW does and how we do it. If you need more information, please contact me so I can get you what you need to assist in the recruitment of Veterans that are looking to help others.
We all need to lean on one another. Every day since I joined the military, I have sought out those who could relate to what I experienced. I am sure there are some that don't like to talk about the experiences they had while serving, I completely understand that and never want to push anyone to feel forced. My goal is for us to bridge the gap of our Vietnam veterans all the way to our current Combat veterans. We often allow the age gap of the Veterans to be a deterrent of Comradeship. We need to address this gap on many levels as the detriment of war has taken a toll on all of us. We need to take the stand and show we have a common goal, the common goal of friendship, support, and ultimately the love of those who serve our country. Come be a part of improving that bridge, identify the "WHY? of your service and "WHY? you proudly say I am a Veteran.
I hope to see more Veterans come out to share in the efforts we are striving so hard to make for those in need. We have started to build our website for everyone to be able to access information about the post and events that we are pushing. Please visit the site at VFW5850.ORG. We also have our Facebook page that we are constantly updating information on VFW Post 5850 Eufaula Al. We also share our posts and information with the Chamber of Commerce to reach as many as possible.
Respectfully,
Your Commander

 QUARTERMASTER'S CORNER

Hello from your new Quartermaster/Adjutant Danny W. Brown.  I was drafted by your new Commander, Shaun Canfield, to fill a position that was unexpectedly vacated. I am a retired Naval Officer with 21 plus years of service, I rose through the enlisted ranks until I reached the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8) at which time I applied for commissioning via the Limited Duty Officer program. I was accepted for commissioning in 1987 and attended AOCS in Pensacola Florida. I served in the Persian Gulf between 1987 and 1992 in Various Fighter Squadrons aboard many different aircraft carriers.  (Don't ask me to tie a knot, I failed that class, that's why they put me in Aviation).

I am a proud American and honored to be a member of Eufaula Post 5850.  I will serve the post and its members to the best of my ability until the elections in the spring of this year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and concerns you may need or have- my personal cell phone number is 941-899-3939.  I will always be available until relieved.   We have an exciting year ahead and look forward to seeing you at our Tuesday dinners or any of the upcoming events. Please visit our new VFW5850 website for the latest news at www.vfw5850.org.  Select the calendar of events to see all the upcoming events for the Post/District/National VFW.

As you well know, we depend on our membership to supply the manpower for the planned events, so your participation would be greatly appreciated.  Stay tuned for the details of the upcoming Life Membership drive which starts next month (February-April). If you are a yearly member, we will assist you in becoming a life member.  If you know anyone who is not currently a member, we will also assist them in becoming a life member

 AUXILIARY CORNER

WOW", what about all the snow in Alabama and Georgia??? Surely not something we see often. I hope everyone stayed safe and made some great memories. Stay warm, Spring is on the way!
I hope that everyone that attended the Mid Winter Conference enjoyed it and that you came away with learning something new and with new ideas.
Our membership ended the year with 65 members. This is great. We welcome our newest members: Michael Rugg and Eiljah Rugg. Welcome guys! We are happy to have you in this great organization.
Can you believe it is getting time to start thinking about officers for the upcoming year. We will nominate and elect officers at our April meeting, Please start thinking about an office you would like to hold or of someone you would like to nominate. We need you! I will have more on this next month.
The Tuesday night dinners with the VFW are going great. I encourage you to come out and enjoy a great meal and wonderful fellowship.
I would like to thank every one of you for all you have done in supporting our Auxiliary and the joint functions with the VFW this past year. We had a great year. Let's continue in 2025 and have an even better year.
