PUBLIC SERVANT OF THE YEAR

VFW Post 5850, Eufaula Al. has selected Jeff Mira as the Servant of the Year for 2024. Jeff is the Chief of the Springhill Volunteer Fire Department, and also a Veteran. He joined the department in March of 2019. He quickly responded to multiple fires and personnel search missions throughout the county. In a short time, his leadership ability and attributes were recognized. Due to his commitment to the duty as a volunteer firefighter he was elected Secretary for the Barbour County Firefighters Association in Jan of 2020. He worked to improve communication and documentation of all the efforts within Barbour County and in April of 2021, he was selected as Chief due to his tireless response effort and his constant search to improve efforts within the department. One of his personal passions are an organization called the Whitetail Warrior Project. This organization supports wounded veterans by providing opportunities outdoors, focused on whitetail deer hunting. He has served on their board of directors since 2015. Additionally, he has also served the county and community on the Barbour Leadership Board for the last 10 years and has been serving as the Boys and Girls Club board chair for the last 3 years.

We were lucky enough to gain him as a Life Member and of course he remains extremely active bringing in Community outreach and service efforts to VFW Post 5850. He is a great asset, and I am proud to submit him for our Outstanding Public Servant of 2024. Congratulations Jeff, thank you for all you do for the community!
